Gerrit J. Verburg Company has introduced Gerrit's Strawberry Satellite Wafers, edible red saucers filled with sour strawberry powder. The wafers reportedly have an extra-crunchy shell. Retailers can order now, with initial orders shipping beginning in late September.
Each 0.88-oz peg bag holds approximately 21 pieces and 90 calories, with 12 bags per case. The suggested retail price is $2.99. The wafers are made in Belgium from cornstarch and are gluten-free, nut-free, and GMO-free.
The flavor is the fourth in the Satellite Wafers lineup, which also includes the original candy bead version, Sour, and Blue Raspberry with Tongue Tattoos. The wafers were first released in the U.S. in the 1950s. Company president Gerrit Verburg says: "The updated wafer shell and new sour powder formula are designed to delight loyal Satellite Wafers fans while also appealing to a new generation of consumers."
