Setting up a candy buffet in a Manhattan or Brooklyn high-rise is mostly a logistics job. The candy is the easy part; getting it from the street to the 30th floor is what takes planning. Most buildings control deliveries tightly, and the rules are set by each building, so the first step is always to ask.

Questions to ask the venue or building

QuestionWhy it matters
Is the freight elevator booked by time slot?Slots fill up on busy event days; book yours early
Do vendors need a certificate of insurance, naming the building and the venue? Many buildings won't let you past the dock without one
Where is the loading dock, and what are its hours? Some docks close in the evening or on weekends
Are there union rules for moving equipment? Some venues require their own crew to move items
Where can the van park, and for how long?Street parking near docks is rarely possible
The COI process is covered in Candy Buffet Certificate of Insurance (COI), and fees for adding a building as additional insured in COI Fees for Candy Buffet Vendors.

Plan the load-in

  • Arrive early for your elevator slot, with everything on carts, ready to roll in one or two trips.
  • Use rolling bins and a flat cart; loose boxes slow down an elevator queue.
  • Pre-fill and label jars at your shop so setup is short once you're upstairs.
  • Budget for tolls and parking in your delivery fee; see Candy Buffet Delivery Fees.
  • Book the elevator for teardown too, often the same night.

For timing, see Candy Buffet Setup Timeline.
